These types of stories are USUALLY fun to shoot, but sometimes they are a bear. When a lot of activity is going on, I’m flitting from one thing to the next, earpiece in, listening intently for those moments that make a story shine. After awhile, the back starts to hurt and the brain wonders how many more shots it can compose of the same thing. After seeing the finished product, though, it’s always worth it. In the first two stories, Mark Saxenmeyer, special projects reporter, and Lou Hinkhouse, editor extraordinaire, managed to take the best of what I shot, and write and edit to it. The third story is an excerpt of a feature I shot with producer Carmen Gonzalez on a Chicago musician.
